Counting the chickens pre-hatch

So here is the new place. We are going from a tiny .15 acre starter home to a potential filled 4.77 acre homestead site. This home was neglected for several years and needs many updates. The property has tons of potential including a large pond, woods with creek, and cleared land. There are several wild edibles growing on the property and I plan to manage the land to be most productive from a permaculture standpoint. While becoming entirely self sufficient is not probably, I would like to become prepared for the possibility of hard times ahead. With this in mind, I’d like to grow a broad selection of edibles and medicinal plants. A self perpetuating fish pond will be an asset and I need to learn how to manage it. Power generation from the creek seems like a possibility. All this is exciting, but the fact remains, we are still in the purchase process and things could potentially fall through. I have faith that we will be moving into this home within the next month though. After completing the move, I’d like to use this blog to document the process of converting this homestead. Hopefully many people will share their ideas and advice through as this process continues. The photo below is from the edge of the woods looking back toward the house. This is about 1/2 the property.
